by Namu Home Goods
Namu means “tree” in Korean, and Namu Home Goods strives to highlight the natural beauty of wood—with an artist’s eye—as a reflection of harmony, harvest, and peace. Founder Diana Ryu is dedicated to unearthing gallery-quality woodwork from Korea, sourced with a distinctly Korean-American aesthetic. The offerings look as beautiful in a midcentury modern as they would in a traditional Hanok.
Item Details
Details: Paju-based multi-disciplinary artist Han Gyeol is well-known for his large scale furniture pieces, but it's these hand held bowls he prefers. Much of his work is made of Korean Oak because of the cultural importance. Each bowl is one of a kind.
Ingredients & Materials: The deep, shiny reddish color comes from the nine layers of lacquer artist Han Gyeol painted on this Zelkova wood bowl. The hyper-thin edges are a testament to the artists handiwork – no machine is able to shave wood so thin and accurately.
Measurements: This item measures 11" wide and 3" deep.
Care & Use: Food and water safe. Please note, this piece does have natural cracking on the bottom so will not hold water or watery foods. Thread and bowl is coated in Ottchil, a UNESCO heritage practice of coating natural sap on wood. It is safe to wash with soap and water. Hand wash only and dry immediately after.
Sold individually.
If purchased alongside made-to-order Mociun fine jewelry, please allow up to 6 weeks for us to create and ship all items together.
